
Professional Barista Development
There are seven programs or modules we offer in our Professional Barista Development Series. These can be taken either as independent offerings or as a series. - Module 1: Coffee Knowledge (From Seed to Cup) (3-8 participants)
- 4 Hour Class Regularly Scheduled at One Line Coffee-Short North Training Center
Explore the story of coffee from it’s socio-economic history to the vast complexity of its production and cultivation. This course strengthens your understanding of all things coffee, apart from the brewing and tasting.
- Module 2: Palate Development (3-8 participants)
- 3 Hour Class Regularly Scheduled at One Line Coffee-Short North Training Center
Deliciousness drives specialty coffee preparation. This course lays the ground work for professional coffee tasting by defining tastes like “acidity, sweetness, bitterness and body”.
- Module 3: Extraction Theory (1-2 Participant Lab Session)
- 3 Hour Class- Custom Scheduled at One Line Coffee-Short North Training Center
Learn the fundamentals of coffee brewing: the 6 extraction variables. Whether it’s batch brew drip coffee, immersion cold brew or pour overs, this class covers the “how-to” of brewing through science and practice.
- Module 4: Espresso & Milk (1-2 Participant Lab Session)
- 4 Hour Class- Custom Scheduled at One Line Coffee-Short North Training Center
This course is fundamentally essential for any cafe serving espresso drinks. Learn espresso preparation, terminology and milk steaming. This course begins a barista’s journey into espresso drink service.
- Module 5: Drink Construction (1-2 Participant Lab Session)
- 2 Hour Class- Custom Scheduled at One Line Coffee-Short North Training Center
After completing Module 4, this class provides guided practice of preparing espresso beverages. The class is essential for any cafe serving espresso drinks. From Americano to Macchiato to Flavored Lattes, we’ll make them all and provide strategies for producing excellent drinks consistently.”
- Module 6: Latte Art (1-2 Participant Lab Session)
- 2 Hour Class- Custom Scheduled at One Line Coffee-Short North Training Center
This is more than just pouring designs in drinks; this is intermediate level milk steaming in which participants make strides for more consistent, better, sweeter milk drinks. You’re drinks will look and taste better.
- Module 7: Espresso Dial-In (1-2 Participant Lab Session)
- 2 Hour Class- Custom Scheduled at One Line Coffee-Short North Training Center
This is intermediate level espresso. Participants learn the art of creating espresso recipes from scratch; and they learn how to make the espresso taste AMAZING everyday.
